EFFECTIVE May 28th - Accessing ISU resources from off campus via VPN requires you to confirm your login with your multi-factor authentication method. Similar to email, you will receive and be required to act on the prompt when logging in. More information on multi-factor authentication may be found here.
When you are off campus, some of Illinois State University's electronic services are unavailable to you unless you establish a VPN connection.
Cisco AnyConnect is available to faculty, staff, and students that is used to access some campus resources from off campus locations.
- Oct 23, 2014 Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client on OS X Yosemite - VPN not working if the Mac is connected via Iphone HotSpot I have encounter a starange situation with Yosemite and Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (all recent versions including latest 3.1.05187).
- In order to verify the Anyconnect installation and the selected modules, in the Anyconnect application, navigate to the Apple's Menu Bar Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client and select About Cisco AnyConnect as shown in the image. Confirm the Installed Modules section as shown in the image.
- Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client mac crack enables you to safely connect to the Internet while also allowing limitless access to websites. If your VPN is lost or disrupted, the service provides a built-in kill switch that will cease all internet activity.
- Locate the Cisco AnyConnect client icon and click on it. Click Disconnect. Close Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. You are now disconnected from VPN. Mac OSX: To disconnect from a VPN connection on Cisco AnyConnect on Mac running Mac OS X or later: Click on the Cisco AnyConnect icon in your Dock. Click Disconnect.
Cisco AnyConnect can be found in the Cisco folder located in the Applications folder (/Applications/Cisco/). Navigate to /Applications/Cisco/ and open 'Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client'. To authenticate with Duo, enter vpn.mit.edu/duo and click the button labeled Connect. Enter your MIT username and password then click the button labeled OK.
Connect Using Cisco AnyConnect
Windows:
- Open Cisco AnyConnect.
- Verify that the path in the field underneath 'Ready to connect.' is VPN01.ILSTU.EDU.
- If the path name does not automatically appear, click the arrow to the right of the field and select VPN01.ILSTU.EDU from the drop down menu, or enter the path name manually (figure 1).

- Click Connect.
- Select the appropriate group to connect to from the group list.
- To access most ISU resources, select –ISU-.
- To access ISU Oracle or SQL database resources directly (via software such as Microsoft Access, Oracle SQL Developer, Microsoft SQL Management Studio, etc.), select DB-User_Access.
Note: When you attempt to connect, you may receive a prompt that tells you that Cisco AnyConnect is updating. Do not attempt to cancel this update, as this update will allow your VPN software to work.
- Enter your ULID and password, click OK.
- You will be prompted to validate your login attempt using the MFA notification option you selected. Information on available MFA authentication methods and steps for using them can be found here
- Click Accept.
You are now connected with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.
Mac OS X:
- Open Cisco AnyConnect.
- Verify that the path in the field underneath 'Ready to connect.' reads [VPN01.ILSTU.EDU]. If the field is empty, type the address in the connection field (figure 2).

- Click Connect.
- Select the appropriate group to connect to from the group list.
- To access most ISU resources, select –ISU-.
- To access ISU Oracle or SQL database resources directly (via software such as Microsoft Access, Oracle SQL Developer, Microsoft SQL Management Studio, etc.), select DB-User_Access.
- Enter your ULID and password, click Connect.
- You will be prompted to validate your login attempt using the MFA notification option you selected. Information on available MFA authentication methods and steps for using them can be found here
- Click Accept.
You are now connected with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.
Disconnect from the VPN
Windows:
To disconnect from the VPN on a Window's machine:
- Locate the Cisco AnyConnect client icon and click on it.
- Click Disconnect.
- Close Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client Mac
You are now disconnected from VPN.
Mac OSX:
To disconnect from a VPN connection on Cisco AnyConnect on Mac running Mac OS X or later:
- Click on the Cisco AnyConnect icon in your Dock.
- Click Disconnect.
- Close Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
You are now disconnected from VPN.

Primer
- This guide will assist with the installation of the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client for OS X 10.6 and later
- You need administrator level account access to install this software.
- Note: Some screen shots may be slightly different from what you see depending on the version of your operating system and the VPN software.
Installation
Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client Mac Download
- Download the VPN installer from MIT's download page, Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client for MAC (certificates required).
- Find and open the downloaded file.
- The file will mount a disk image. Open this disk image and launch the file named 'anyconnect-macosx-XXXXXX'.
- On the following screen titled Welcome to the AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Installer, click Continue.
- When presented with the software license agreement, click Continue then click Agree on the slide-down menu.
- If you are prompted 'Select a Destination...', select your primary hard drive and click Continue.
- On the window titled Standard Install..., click the button labeled Install and enter your computer username and password when prompted and click Install Software.
Note: The user must be an administrator of the machine to install.
Result: The VPN client will begin to install itself. - When the installation has competed, click the button labeled Close.
Initiating a Connection to VPN and to VPN using Duo
- Cisco AnyConnect can be found in the Cisco folder located in the Applications folder (/Applications/Cisco/).
- Navigate to /Applications/Cisco/ and open 'Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client'.
- To authenticate with Duo, enter vpn.mit.edu/duo and click the button labeled Connect.
- Enter your MIT username and password then click the button labeled OK.
With Duo authentication, you will see a field asking for a Second Password.
In this field you may type in one of the following options:- push - Duo will send a push notification to your registered cell phone with the Duo Security mobile app installed
- push2 - Duo will send a push notification to your _second registered device with the Duo Security mobile app installed_
- sms - Duo will send an SMS to your registered cell phone
- Phone -Duo will call your registered phone
- Phone2 -Duo will call your second registered phone
- Yubikey - If you are using a Yubikey for authentication, make sure the Second Password field is highlighted and use your key. For instructions on using the Yubikey, please see How do I authenticate with a YubiKey?
- The one time code generated by your hardware token or the Duo Security mobile app (the code changes every 60 seconds)
In this example, I entered 'push' in the Second Password field. I will receive a push notification on my cell phone, go to the Duo app and click Approve.
- When prompted at the MIT's Virtual Private Network (VPN) screen, click the button labeled Accept to connect to MIT's Virtual Private Network.
- Upon successful connection, Cisco AnyConnect will minimize itself and you will see the AnyConnect logo with a small lock in your menu bar just to the left of the time.
